Visit of Fontdouce Abbey

On the way back from Cognac is a little Abbey called Fontdouce whose Roman architecture is truly beautiful & inspiring.

The lower chapel has an amazing acoustic based on a system of vases inserted in the depth of the wall at the bottom of the chapel on one hand, and also based on the overall inner shape of the building. The result is amazing: someone whispering at the entrance of the chapel can be heard at the bottom as if whispering in the ear of the listener...!

If you want to know more about Fontdouce Abbey, there is a Wikipedia article on & also a web site of the abbey both in French and English)
