Christian-Ghanaian wedding

Today, Francisca Zeng, one of my staff, got married and invited us tot the celebrations. The wedding was organized at the Flagstaff House, a prestigious church of Accra. Bride and groom were in white and committed to each other in a festive ambiance...

I believe if French churches were having such kind of music they would have more people on Sundays...

Here is Bruno, the Deputy Director of ID-Ghana, very classy...

As this other colleague of mine, Kwabena, our Internal Auditor, who chose to go the traditional way. He is wearing a traditional Kente, a large piece of cloth which to some extent can be compared to a sari for men. It is made of hand-woven bands sewed together to make the fabric and wrapped around the body. The Kente is traditionally the outfit of Ashanti's (also called Akan's), the dominant ethni of Ghana, settled in the center of the country around the city of Kumasi. Such outfit can cost thousands of euros depending on the decorations and quality (you can see few of them by clickling here). What Bruno wears (traditional western suit) or what Kwabena wears (Kente) represents how well Ghanaian have integrated the western influence without forgetting about their culture. Both outfit can equally be worn in such occasion and even many more traditional outfits from other parts of Ghana like the type of kurta I was wearing, which is from the North of the country, near Burkina Faso border.

Here is the group picture with Francisca surrounded by her colleagues:

The church is quite a modern one, it actually regularly hosts masses where President Kufuor (the head of the Republic of Ghana since 2000) often attends.

And here is the beautiful couple, wearing their African outfits... Stunning isn't it?
