Elmina and the sea

Sixteen kilometers West of Cape Coast lies the little city of Elmina, after the Portuguese name el mina ('the mine') for gold used to be extracted from the territories around the present city. Like in Cape Coast, there is a huge and quite beautiful castle which served the same wicked purpose of trading slaves for quite a number of centuries...
We started the day in a very tender manner as you can see...


The day was hot in Elmina castle and we were happy not to have forgotten the little fan I brought back from Tamale... Quite handy for Mannat!

Facing the caslte on a small hill is Fort William, aiming at protecting the castle...


And back in Cape Coast, Mannat experienced for the first time the feel of the sea... She was a bit scared to see the water rushing towards her as waves were breaking on the beach but it seems she finally enjoyed it, with Papa...


As well as with Mama!
