I went for a couple of days in the bush in Volta region and visited a few villages around the capital city of Ho. The first one I was taken to is called Matse Ando, around 25 km away from the city.

Most movements are done on foot between villages. Here a woman reaching Dodome with her load on the head:

Kente weavers of Maste Ando:
The kente is a typical Ghanaian traditional outfit: a piece of colorful and delicately weaved material wrapping men (see also post of Jun-08 and Jul-08 on this blog). These clothes are manufactured in villages of Ashanti Region (center of the country), but also in Volta Region. The weaving machines are very rudimentary and to make the bands that form the final clothes, they need space to stretch the threads.
